Aryeon: The Source
Arjen Anthony Lucasson delivers HUGE thematic music and taps amazing talent to deliver epic music
It was probably 10 years ago when I first heard a song by Aryeon, a project assembled by the Dutch multi-intrumentalist Arjen Anthony Lucasson. That led me on a deep dive into his work and efforts, and the adding of many great LP’s to my vinyl collection.
If you held a gun to my head to pick a favorite, it would be nearly impossible. His music just hits hard. He also has other projects, and even had an aborted planned effort with the incomparable Bruce Dickenson (Iron Maiden frontman).
Gun to my head, I would pick Aryeon: The Source. Why? The people that Arjen brought in are just amazing. I mean, when you pull in vocalists like James LaBrie (Dream theater), Simone Simons (Epica), and the absolute MONSTER Tobias Sammet (Edguy, Avantasia) you know it is good.
But the cherry on top is him bringing in two of my favorite guitarist, Paul Gilbert and Guthrie Govan.
Just amazing. Check this track out and tell me if it doesn’t slap:
Yeah, Gilbert lays down a ripping solo on this one. Check out the whole album, it is a story, yet the songs stand well on their own, similar to Comfortably Numb on the album The Wall, or Eyes of a Stranger from Queensryche’s Operation: Mindcrime
Hope you enjoy this…
Powerful stuff. I love it. As usual, you bring new names to add to my playlist. Thanks, Geoff!!!
