Hmm, this 'Stack might make me ineligible for the Trump juries - Good.
Nothing is private in the social media era, and that might not be so terrible in some contexts
I have been keeping an eye on the jury selection reporting for the Trump election interference trial, and I have to say that I more than chuckled at the reports that Trump couldn’t keep from nodding off. The nicknames are hilarious. Don Snoreleone? Just fucking gold.
Look, I know that when the Adderall wears off, you have a bit of a crash, so you need a little respite. But, since you hammer on “Sleepy Joe”, you really shouldn’t fall asleep in public.
But what caught me off guard is that after lunch of the first day, it was clear that both sides had done some due diligence on the social media presence of the prospective jurors, and to raise the case that they should be excused for cause.
And this public airing is a fucking RIOT.
The best part is the buttoned-down lawyers reading some of these quips that were Tweeted or posted to Facebook while Trump has to listen without reacting is just next level awesome-sauce.
But it made it clear that I probably would be bounced. Surely they would find this Substack, and reading about my railing against the Tangerine Hippo, and all the shit that surround him, and …
I am not sure that is as bad thing. I do not do any other social media (deleted loooooong ago) but if they ever got to my Meme Farm folder on Trump, well, here are a few (circa 2016)
My one brush with a jury
Back in the 1990’s, I was working as an analytical chemist, so circa 1994 or so, and I got called for jury duty. I worked graveyard shift, I was single, and thus I had no “hardship” excuse. But I really wanted to sit. And the excuses that the folks in the pool proffered to get out of their civic duty were just D U M B.
I was the first person pulled from the panel, and the voir dire went well, I was the first person seated in the box.
Over the next three days they got to the 12, and the 3 alternates. Then it was the last call for strikes, and I was stunned to be the only one removed at the request of the defense.
Net-net, I got 3 days off of work, I got to see up close and personal the jury trial sausage making, and I have an appreciation for those who sit.
(the case was an aborted armed robbery; I would have enjoyed weighing the evidence)
So, I might not be allowed to sit in judgement over Trump. Bummer.
I think the chances of jurors and witnesses being in danger from the Nodfather’s cultists is probably overblown. Still, if I was them I’d have a hard time not holding a grudge over the possibility.
It’ll be great if Trump comes out of this looking like the ranty, tired old man he is. Get some 💤 Sleepy Donald.
Had this thought a while back when it looked like GA would be up sooner, people in prospective trial areas should be paying attention to the examples being set in this one and react accordingly! I would love to read the POS some of my posts, given the chance.
