In case you missed it: DJT goes on trial tomorrow
You go to war with the army you have, not the one that you wish for.
Look, I get it, pundits struggle to get worked up over the business documents case that is centered around an attempt to materially interfere with the 2016 presidential election. When the indictments dropped a year ago, there was a collective groan, and eye-roll amongst the punditocracy that it was the weakest case, the least satisfying, case, the one that is the tawdriest. I get it, it isn’t about sparking a rebellion to overrun the capital, or to have a fuckload of classified and top secret documents in your unsecured loo.
But it is crystal clear that this is likely the ONLY trial that will happen before the election. The judicial branch is hardly covering themselves in glory with their deference, and water carrying for the tangerine shit-gibbon, be it the SCOTUS taking their sweet fucking time on the question of presidential immunity, and the (less than) Honorable Aileen Cannon in Florida who seems to be so bad at her job, she would struggle to manage a Foster’s Freeze.
And, in fact, it is a pretty damn solid case. The business documents were falsified. The payments were made. The ledger was fraudulent. The affair happened. The payments were intended to prevent another Access Hollywood level of event in the run up to the election.
And, if Trump were as “innocent” as he proclaims, he wouldn’t have forced his attorneys to embarrass themselves 11 times with shit-bag motions to delay, stall, and obfuscate the trial. Nope, Trump sounds and acts like a terrified kid caught with his hand in the cookie jar.
But then, Ruth Marcus, the legal opinion person at the Post pens this lame oped: “Why Did This Seamy Trump Trial Have to be the First?”.
Look, it might not be the one we want to see, but it is likely (almost certainly) to be the only trial to commence prior to November. Trump has spent over $100M in attorney fees to delay, kick the can down the road, and to throw sand into the gears of justice.
From the piece:
So, the case will go forward, starting Monday. But it’s not hard to imagine that jurors could balk — it just takes one to produce a hung jury — at shoehorning Trump’s payments to Daniels, however odious, into the tangential crime of falsifying business records, which was outlawed to ensure that New York citizens, businesses and investors could rely on the financial accuracy of corporations operating in the state. How were voters harmed by false bookkeeping entries they never saw?
Uh, how about had this come to light in the waning hours of the 2016 election, Trump might have lost enough votes that we wouldn’t have had a Trump administration at all, and all the chaos, fuckery, and heinousness of that four year stretch wouldn’t have happened.
So, yeah, this is a big fucking deal, and it has widdle Donnie Sundowner terrified.
All you pundits, just shut the fuck up.
“All you pundits, just shut the fuck up.”
I’ll second that. The Ruth Marcus column popped up in my email and I just hit delete.
And I’m sure there’s a chance of a Trumper sneaking onto the jury and nullifying. Whatever happens, we the people get to hear the evidence. The pundits have been trashing this case since the beginning, but I’ll celebrate any chance to hold him accountable for anything.
I understand the jury selection should take two or three weeks. My birthday is May 7 and I can’t think of anything I’d rather have than the start of a Trump trial.
Maybe you know, but I’m in the dark on what happened to the civil trial that the Capitol police were bringing against Trump. I think it got tied up in the immunity, rights of a king thing Trump was pushing.
I’d like to see that before the election as much as the January 6 trial.
I wish the MSM would stop focusing on the admittedly juicy bits and focus on the falsification aspects. With Trump it’s all “here’s a fraud, there’s a fraud, everywhere a fraud, fraud”. I dearly loved me some Foster’s Freeze when I was a kid. There was one by our house.
