Influences: Michael Schenker
One player got my attention, and led to a lifetime of discovery and enjoyment.
When I was a wee lad (the mid to late 1970’s) I fell into progressive rock, and I was 100% certain that I wanted to play the keys. I was just agape when I heard songs like Karn Evil 9 first impression part 2, I was floored.
However, I never really picked up the keys. Instead, sitting in a room with a buddy from high school, and he dropped the needle on the 4th side of the double album “Strangers in the Night” and I was mesmerized.
Front and center was the guitar, kick ass, in-your-face rock, catchy hooks, and amazing riffs.
It was at that moment that I knew I wanted to play guitar.
Below is an early interview of my hero, where he explains his style, and how he approached the instrument.
Naturally, I never reached this level of mastery, but the journey has been a blast.
Listen to one of the greats in his own words.
Enjoy!
