It pains me to write this... Trump will not be held accountable before the election
He is going to get away with it. All of it.
I am taking a break in writing about my Elon Musk Shaming Kink (it’s gonna be great) because I have to weigh in.
This morning about 9 AM I got the push notification that the NY Appellate Court instituted a stay against the rulings from the NY AG case on the manipulation of property valuations to reduce interest payments for loans (by raising the values) and reducing tax assessments (by lowering values) and they reduced the bond to be posted from ~ $450M to $175M, and stayed the rest of the findings until the appellate process is completed.
This is bad.
Really bad.
First, Trump has (again) skirted responsibility, with a huge assist by the courts.
Second, he gets another 10 days to line up a bond (and it is clear he will be able to get over this line).
Third, the appeals hearings will be in the Fall term, so it will be scheduled for September at the earliest. Clearly, this will not be adjudicated prior to the election.
Fuck fuck, fuckety-fuck.
The man has more than nine lives. Here is a gifted article from The Atlantic: “Donald Trump’s Nine Lives”
David Graham does it justice, regardless of how unsatisfying it is.
The problem for Trump remains winning on appeal. He railed against Engoron in a statement and claimed that the judge was wrong on law, but legal experts told me that they thought Trump would struggle to win his appeal. Engoron’s decision was written in clear detail, as was his calculation of Trump’s penalty, which is based on how much ill-gotten gain Trump extracted from his fraud. “The judge here did a very good job,” Jim Wheaton, a law professor at William & Mary, told me. “Whether you agree or not, the judge very carefully made factual conclusions based on testimony in front of the judge. The judge made credibility decisions based on testimony of witnesses before him.”
Alas, the appeals court put their finger on the scale, and they are going to let the bronzed Rhino off the hook.
Then the January 6th case that is on hold for the shit-weasels in the Supreme Court are playing footsie with the claims of absolute presidential immunity, and I suspect they will rule on it badly. Likely on the last day at the end of June they will rule that there are some things they will kick back to the 11th Circuit to adjudicate, inserting another 3-6 months of ridiculous frivolity in the courts.
Lastly, while I want to believe that the Fulton County case on election interference in Georgia will happen, it is crystal clear that the judge and the unfortunate storm clouds from the Fani Willis and Wade sideshow has crippled this case, coupled with the complexity of a RICO prosecution means that this might never actually get to trial.
I know a lot of my audience wants to believe that this speed bump is in the rear-view mirror, but alas, I think the case is sunk.
Unfortunate in the maximum degree.
I guess I should be happy that (so far) the Stormy Daniels / business documents case will go to trial on April 15, but fuck me, it seems like it is too little. Too little to really move the needle, and a year+ of Never Trumpers and the Anti-Anti’s pooh-poohing this as a nothing-burger will blunt public opinion.
No, the courts are not going to save us, and increasingly I am coming to the conclusion that this is who we are, and that we are likely to elect Trump to the office of President in the fall.
I am totally depressed.
Couldn’t agree more!!! We, the people will have to vote him out!!
☠️👺FFS!
