Mr. Big: Road to Ruin
Mr. Big was huge, and it propelled Paul Gilbert into stardom, freeing his later work to go wherever his whims would take him. In this, he demonstrates why he is a guitar god.
I was doing some mindless work last today (a business justification for a trivial EOL of a training course - YAWN) and this song rolled up on my playlist.
From the live album Raw like Sushi, Vol 2, recorded in Tokyo in 1991 (holee sheeit, that was 33 fucking years ago, damn I am old).
The song is a cranker, but the gold is that this leads to the guitar solo by the inestimable Paul Gilbert, the man, the myth, and the legend.
12 plus minutes, but worth the listen. The interplay between Billy Sheehan on the bass and Gilbert is just mesmerizing. But the solo by Gilbert is just perfection.
Oh my a major blast from the past!! I had forgotten how much I loved them. Lots of memories from back then! Thanks for the reminder!!! His voice…. So smoooooth & fantastic guitars playing off of each other!! Yeah!!!👍🏻 ✌🏻 🤙
OMG perfect timing. I just bought a hybrid SUV with a fabulous Bose 12-speaker system. Gotta go for a spin. It's that "self-care" work everyone is talking about on Substack!
