A delightful recording from a UK TV appearance in 1970, Deep Purple’s track from their 4th album is still a stunner.
‘nuff said, listen to this nine and a half minutes of killer jam, with Ian Gillian’s haunting vocal stylings overlaying the killer organ work by Jon Lord, and one can never forget the “matter of fact” nature of Ritchie Blackmore’s axe slinging.
Not playing one of his signature Fender Strat’s with a scalloped fretboard, this guitar is a Gibson semi-hollow body sort of like what BB King played.
But it isn’t the guitar, it is the player, and Ritchie has it in spades.
Whew, that is a well spent time to watch!
Thanks for that! This song and “Lazy” were always my favorites. Among my friends, I was always the weirdo who preferred Deep Purple to Led Zeppelin, probably because I was a Hammond B-3 fanatic, and Jon’s B-3 through a Marshall was killer. I love how those young ladies just sat there impassively right next to the Marshall stacks!
Another great wake up tune. 👏👏👏👏 (I'm not widely familiar with Deep Purple so....this was nice)
