Music: Kent Nishimura - again
A deep cut of the incomparable Steely Dan, Kent does his magic on one of my favorite tracks, and it is glorious
My first Steely Dan album was a “Best Of” collection. I bought it because a magazine had the transcription of Kid Charlemagne, with the guest player on that track being the jazz great, Larry Carlton.
I learned the basic chords, and a few of the breaks, but I wasn’t really up to the whole song.
On that album were many other tunes, but the one that I gravitated to, over and over was Deacon Blues. A fun romp, the song traipses through the fields, and it captures a joie de vivre that I commonly get listening to Steely Dan. This snippet of lyrics takes me back to my, uh, less restrained days:
Learn to work the saxophone
(I) I play just what I feel
Drink Scotch whiskey all night long
And die behind the wheel
They got a name for the winners in the world
(I) I want a name when I lose
They call Alabama the Crimson Tide
Call me Deacon Blues
Man, the memories flood back.
Kent Nishimura is a Japanese guitarist that has a unique style, and he pays a grand tribute to the masters.

Rikki Don’t Lose that Number made me a fan, but the only album I ever owned was Aja, with Deacon Blues.
"Are you with me Dr Wu?
Are you really just a shadow of a man that I once knew?"
