Music: Unlucky Morpheus

I really am slack-jawed listening to this.

Look, I am a sucker for a pretty still on a YT video, but one way to abso-fucking-lutely to get me to click and watch is to do something with one of the most iconic and recognizable pieces of rock music, I am gonna mash that play button so hard my mouse will complain.

That is the simple word “Eruption”, side one, track two from the first Van Halen album.

Doesn’t matter what instrument, and I have seen it on banjo, mandolin, ukelele, piano, and others. It is one minute, forty-three seconds of pure, unadulterated Eddy from the 1970’s.

Here is a Japanese band, Unlucky Mopheus, whose violinist just tears it up.

As I was writing this, I got fed a cover of Ynqwie Malmsteen’s Far Beyond the Sun from his first solo album. Consider this a bonus. Yngwie plays lots of Pagianinni violin riffs adapted to guitar, and this is a violinist re-adapting them to the violin.

The effect? Entrancing.
