Rockford Files: Comfort Food for the Soul
One of my joys growing up was watching The Rockford Files, a scrappy PI, compelling stories, and some amazing fun combine to bring joy. Now I have the complete set on my Plex server
Along the lines of the recent addition of the complete corpus of Mission: Impossible show, I also added the complete set of The Rockford Files to my TV Series collection on my Plex server.
$58 and a pile of DVD’s arrived via Amazon, and were quickly ripped and imported for easy access.
The packaging was minimal (yay), there were no frills (who cares) and it was straightforward to import.
The Show
James Garner plays the title role, Private Investigator Jim Rockford, an ex-con (pardoned) licensed investigator who specializes in cases that the police have given up on.
He lives in a trailer on the ocean near Los Angeles, his home base, where he fishes, and entertains clients.
James Garner is a great actor who truly makes the Rockford character his own, blending acting, his in your face stunts, and iconic trips through the gritty neighborhoods (and the swanky ones too) of the LA Basin.
A string of characters grace the show, heck, the pilot had Lindsay Wagner (the bionic woman) seeking information on the death of her troubled brother. And it just got better from there.
The Videos
While the era of filming The Rockford Files was when real film was used, it is likely that the mastering for broadcast was done on 1.5” or 2” video tape, very high quality for the era (Standard Definition) and the transfers and digitization for the DVD’s is superb. Not much noise, clear, and resolution to spare for the medium (DVD) makes for a very enjoyable watching experience.
Highly recommended if you are a fan to add this to your collection.
