I spent the day yesterday hanging out with my brother, helping shop for the Thanksgiving meal tomorrow, and basking is a gloriously clear unseasonably warm day and doting on their two Maltese’s.
It was a pretty boring (good) day.
But I want to talk about the hotel. I am staying in a Days Inn by Wyndham, and it is what you would expect from a touristy lodging. The bed is good, the pillows range from squishy to firm so I can get comfortable.
It is clean, it has in room coffee service (one of those single cup units) and they actually give you more than 2 full caf packets.
But, the real cool thing is that there are ample places to charge your devices. Often, rooms have a limited amount of sockets to plug your wall wart chargers into. Hell, the number of times I have unplugged the in room alarm clock to charge my damn phone is astounding.
Days Inn has done a superlative job of accommodating the modern traveler. Especially if you are a family with kids, and you are bunking here to visit the sites like Sea World, you can get your devices topped up.
This is handled a couple of ways. First, the small stand between the beds has accessible a standard outlet. Easy to access, so really cool. It also has a USB charger built in, with two USB ports. So you can charge three devices here, using the two USB ports and the standard outlet.
However, as Billy Mays would say, there’s more.
There are two table lamps in the room, on the table, and on the small table between the beds, that each have two outlets, AND a magnetic cable free inductive charger. If you have a modern phone, you just set it on it, it “bongs” at you, and it begins charging.
The net-net is that I can do most of my charging without untangling the pile of charging cables in my backpack.
It is not all skittles and unicorns though. The room does have in room internet. It is WiFi, and you get the code to log in when you check in. That is good, but it is also woefully over subscribed. Not surprising, there are plenty of families staying here (the sea of minivans and rental cars in the parking lot attest to that) and in the morning and evening all these families are likely hitting the internet to stream their favorites. Speed test tells me that I am getting about 5 mbit down, and about 0.8 mbit up. Not very good. Glad I am not trying to do any work or conference calls here ;-).
Still, I am not going to complain. It does the job, and the price was right!
Today, I am off to visit my stepmother. She lives in a local retirement community and seems to be thriving after my father passed last year.
Later today, my kid sister and her family is arriving so we will connect for dinner tonight.
A good trip!
