Spot on, Mr. Anderson! I did watch the 2 shows "in order", but had no idea they were in any way related until well into Ashes to Ashes. They were 2 of my favorite British cop procedurals. Like you, I've run through many of the choices available. I think it's hilarious that every time a police officer shows up at your door, it seems it's compulsory to "put the kettle on."

We stream Britbox, Acorn, PBS, and Netflix, so have an extensive list of British (and Aussie and Kiwi) detective shows we enjoy(ed). I’m compiling a list for a friend. I’ll drop it in Comments when I’ve done so, though you may have seen many of them. We have not watched Ashes to Ashes or Life on Mars. Will check them out. Thx!

Have you seen The Heart Doctor? Great Aussie show, and I love Brokenwood. Detective Simms’ “Resting Bitch Face” is a pleaser

Yes to Heart Doctor. It was a fun show. Brokenwood is on the list. We tried it some time ago, but didn’t love it (I can say the same thing about Vera, which ended up being one of my all-time favorite shows). An Aussie friend, whose tastes are much like mine, loves it, so I’m going to give it another go. Same friend got me hooked on Murdoch Mysteries, but I’m still only on season 3 of that.

Oh my. I thought I was unique in terms of love for these shows. Thanks for the recommendation. You must have already seen my all time favorite, New Tricks. Also, Shetland is perfection as well.

Oh man, I LOVE New Tricks. Amanda Redman is spectacular.

Shetland did a pretty solid pivot with the move to Ashley Jensen (who is also fabulous as Agatha Raisin).

The English do some great television. If I lived in England maybe I’d go back to watching. Loved Midsommer Murders, Inspector Morse and The Sandbaggers. Also, Jeeves and Wooster and Downton Abbey in a different genre.

I will have to check out The Sandbaggers, and Jeeves and Wooster. I tried to get into Downton Abbey but it just didn't click for me.

I have watched a BUNCH of Midsomer Murders (I like the original cast and drifted away after they departed). I love John Thaw.

I should add that I love anything with Nicola Walker in it.

Nicola Walker is our favorite actress. We finally watched her in The Split, which is about lawyers, not detectives, but is some powerful writing and acting. Bonus is it has Stephen Mangan, who I really like. And I rewatch the River “dance” scene, with the amazing Stellan Skarsgård, every so often just to see her joy. It’s magic.
