We have had many musical interest that jive. Today you have reach into my heart and grabbed a favorite from a good time in my life. When I was heavy with child with my unborn first child Trilogy was an album which I played over and over! I have been a fan of ELP and will always BE a fan of ELP. I should ask my son if he gets an AHA moment when HE hears them.
Super Group indeed!
I still get a beautiful flashback when the opening of “From the Beginning”! It was seared on my soul. And it was Definitely an ALBUM. The whole B side was played almost as much as From the Beginning itself!
Thank you for such a great start to my morning!! Many of my friends do not remember or know much about ELP and I think it is such a shame!!
I will play this album - well a YouTube version, Both Sides at the very least!! The only album which got as much playtime in my house was Pink Floyd Dark Side of the Moon….🌕 🌙 !
Way back in the early 1960's I was a choir boy, our organist/conductor would riff on the organ for processions and during communion (which took almost half an hour). On the side he was writing organ music and used these occasions to try out new tunes - he also had tape recordings of every service, we would sometimes see him with a couple of the tenors going back and forth through the tape recordings discussing how it sounded. While I like all kinds of music from classical to some rap (and ELP) I've always had a soft spot for music on quality organs.
I saw them a number of times including the Olympic stadium in Montreal, which had abysmal acoustics. My favourite was the 1973 Mar y Sol pop festival in Puerto Rico. He was throwing knives into his Marshall stacks and climbing them with the palms waving in the night breeze.
Great video! I have access to a fairly large pipe organ (which also has electronic sounds) and before I started getting busy with other things, was learning to play. I’ve played piano for the better part of 60 years (and actually had a small console organ growing up), but adding that pedal line is something that makes my brain go haywire. My brain switches the 2 bass lines (left hand and feet). All of this is a really long way of saying I love watching talented organists, since I am not one. So thank you!
Keith Emerson once said: “I do not write music for the pop charts. I write music for … let’s say 50 years from now, musicians would still want to hear.”
I still listen to this music, because unlike today’s music, they were actual musicians, not just singers/entertainers.

I am humbled that you got to experience that awesomeness. \m/

Did he ever write for the future!
