I lisened to Quantum Blues.

It sounded to me like it had included a hefty sampling of JD Vance.

Very soon, DJs at dance clubs won't be sampling real artists. They'll be sampling AI dance grooves. Probably already are.

Indeed. And the whole genre of royalty free media that is used in film production, and others (like advertising) will be able to not pay any money to real artists. A lot of working musicians are going to be starved going forward.

If you hadnt told me it was AI generated, I wouldnt have known. That simultaneously pisses me off and scares the hell outta me. The excitement and satisfaction of watching a musician creating from his heart and soul can never be replaced. And I’ll hear something, like it, and then find out it was AI…I’ll feel like a dumbass who has been duped. “Get off my lawn”. 🙄

Yes, it is good enough that it just sounds like a well produced and polished band. Scary shit indeed

Soooo many things to unpack but I need to start with this (whispers gently) “fuckin’A.”

Whew. Now AI is designed to mimic whatever genre is at hand, with varying degrees of success. It’s ok(?) that there are areas where the technology is more successful and, if you enjoy it, great. BUT AI’s biggest challenge is in the actual creation of art, the ability to go off script during a concert, the pure emotion engendered when we experience true art. As a SF fan, I have read many scenarios about what might happen after this particular Pandora’s Box is not just opened but turned over and shaken until everything has fallen out. One possible outcome? Record labels opt for cheap AI generated music instead of those pesky human performers, thus stifling artistic evolution.

And…Ty for the opportunity to think about something other than DT and Elonia. It’s refreshing to have a breather now and again.

Somebody I used to play out with told me he preferred Rap and Hip Hop, because of how tight their beat (drum line) was.

I had to explain to him that all the artists he mentioned used drum machines to do that, so of course they were perfect, and he just couldn't fathom that fact.

While I love technically challenging music (listen to, not play) I also love when one of my heroes screws up, and then makes it work. Paul Gilbert is a master of this. Watch any of his solos from the Mr. Big era, and you will see what I mean.

Thanks for the post! I too am struggling with the firehose of badness that T2.0 has been.
