Dafuq is the Times up to now? Tom Suozzi op-ed
With reps like this, the Dem's are well and truly fucked. His optimism is misplaced.
Alas, my last post about the hinky Judicial report by Chief Justice Roberts was not the only fuckery in the NY Times. No, they had to open their pages to the d-bag that is Tom Suozzi, NY district 3 representative, the Democrat who won the seat vacated byGeorge Santos.
Here’s the gifted link, in case you want to read it.
The summary is that Rep. Suozzi thinks that it would be a mistake to blanket resist the Trump administration. His second ‘graph is:
That would be a mistake. Only by working together to find compromise on parts of Mr. Trump’s agenda can we make progress for Americans who are clearly demanding change in the economy, immigration, crime and other top issues.
He issued this right after this gem:
As a Democratic member of Congress, I know my party will be tempted to hold fast against Mr. Trump at every turn: uniting against his bills, blocking his nominees and grinding the machinery of the House and the Senate to a halt.
It is almost like he doesn’t remember any of the Republican recalcitrance, and their unified fuckery during the Obama and Biden years.
Of course, he then whitewashes it with this trite bullshit…
I’m no dupe: Some of Mr. Trump’s actions offer little reassurance that he is ready to embrace the bipartisanship and compromise essential to a functioning democracy. His radical cabinet picks, such as the Project 2025 contributor Russell Vought and Matt Gaetz (now withdrawn); his last-minute demands on last month’s government funding bill; and the recent demonstrations of hubris, such as Republicans bringing Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy to Capitol Hill and refusing to include Democrats in the meetings, offer no reason for optimism about compromise. But if Mr. Trump wants to have a more effective presidency than he had in his first term, he needs to embrace his inner dealmaker and negotiate with the other party that holds just shy of half of the seats on Capitol Hill and key governorships around the country. And if he does that work, Democrats should meet him halfway rather than be the Party of No.
Look, we know how this works out, the Democrats behave like a “real” political party, while the Republicans have shown virtually no willingness to compromise. (excepting when there is “must pass” legislation where they rely on the “sane” Democrats to save them from themselves)
But then he goes into the tired arguments of the leftward shift of the Democrats. As if.
I know many voters reject my party’s significant leftward shift. So do I. But as a common-sense Democrat who won in a district that Mr. Trump also won, I am certain our closely divided electorate would rather have bipartisan solutions than political gridlock.
The country has shifted hard right, and the Democrats have joined in this rightward veer1. So his pantomime about how he is just refusing to cave to the “woke” mobs is just that, histrionics and puffery.
Sure, he represents the wealthy enclave of Nassau county, so it is natural that he uses this as an excuse.
Then he utters the “mandate” of the election while whittling it away (gee, like it isn’t really a mandate):
The election was a mandate. But it wasn’t for one-party rule — Mr. Trump won with less than 50 percent of the popular vote, and Republicans have thin majorities in the House and the Senate. But as I see it, the results of the 2024 campaign were a mandate for border security, immigration reform, low inflation, economic stability and common ground on culture-war fights. That’s good for America.
So Tom, does this mean that you are all for mass deportations, military tribunals for his un-favored generals, the likely erection of concentration camps for those staging to be deported, and other fuckery.
Oh, and then he seems to think that he (and the Dem’s) will be able to affect the gutting of things like healthcare and climate:
Democrats cannot abandon our zeal to combat climate change. At the same time, let’s balance our commitment to environmental protection with pragmatic measures that safeguard affordable utility bills and manageable costs at the pump.
So, does Suozzi really think that he will be able to strike deals with the troglodytes in the Republican caucuses? Because that dog won’t hunt. This desire to be appeasers in the face of the stone wall of Republican incompetence and performative assholery.
The days of —
But if they embrace bipartisanship and cooperation, 2025 can be a better year for all Americans. We have to remember that the ultimate goal of government should be serving the American people, not our respective parties.
That is the verbiage of a fucking loser. We might as well have George Santos back in that seat. I will leave you with this capture of the first comments in the thread:
I couldn’t have put it any better.
The one clear fact coming out of the post election data is how the ENTIRE country has moved right, we were center right, but now it is unmistakable that we as a country is more conservative. That is just the facts.
"I'm no dupe"
Yes you are, Tom. What, did you and Fetterman get together and decide to cave?
Democrats are clueless and they're assisting the Republicans in destroying the country.
Whatever happened to Good Old George, anyway?
Agent Orange doesn’t negotiate, there is no art of the deal. He bulldozes, gaslights and insults to get his way. Just Say No.
