Diversity hire dares to critique a Democratic Candidate who happens to be the current vice president as not worthy of being the nominee. 's'cuse me, it's time to take out the trash.
I don't know why the reality-show producers currently running the major news organizations are upset. They were bored with the race, and they demanded an exciting new twist!
And that's just what Joe and Kamala gave them. It just wasn't the twist they were expecting, is all.
Read both this piece and Mr. Wood’s; the tenor one gets from all of the editorials and op-eds disguised as articles the past couple of days is that they are ticked off that they don’t get the gladiatorial bloodletting that generates revenue.
Anyone who wants to scream "coronation," even though all of us primary voters voted for both Biden/Harris, should instead be asking why there wasn't a fight at the Republican convention.
Nikki Haley had delegates. Ron DeSantis had delegates. No primary voter voted for the VP nominee of the oldest man ever nominated for president.
I think these columnists have the same problem as the "Let's Go Brandon" store and the Republican Party.
They had the next six weeks of stories predicated on Democrats In Disarray!!! And now they're all mad/sad.
What I would really like to see is -- well, first Harris win in November.
But next, all politicians stop feeling it's necessary to treat the NYT or WaPo as someone you have to sit down with. Frankly, it makes more sense to talk to Fox than to stroke the egos at NYT and the Washington Post. At least at Fox, you're reaching people who might change their mind.
There's nothing better than Repubsplaining to show that Democrats' support for Harris is real. I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure that when people voted for President Biden in the primaries they assumed that Kamala would be on the ticket. And that she would be capable to fulfill presidential responsibilities when/if the time came. It's here now, and we're excited about her candidacy.
As far as the DEI thing, that used to be called the Old Boys' Network. The one where qualified women and non-white, less affluent job seekers were consistently passed over for white men. Please stop whining - you look like fools and you're hurting my ears.
It seems that all those who rail against DEI, inclusive language and the other horrors are all mediocre middle aged white dudes who would not be where they are if they actually had ro compete for it, but are positive that they "earned" their station in life.
Thanks for the link. I'm almost 70, so this was the reality for much of my working life. My sister is a few years older than I. When she graduated from college (1973) she got an office job at a major retailer. They hired all successful male applicants as management trainees, and all females as administrative assistants.
I have also spent my entire working life (beginning in 1983) having to prove myself over and over again. I landed in the “she can have it all “ phase of women in the workplace. The problem with that is, you can try, but don’t be surprised when you end up locked in the bathroom, breaking down because you didn’t get the right color of frosting on a 7th birthday cake and you have 20 children, and their mothers, and your mother in law, cutting the cake and soothing your 7 year old’s bruised ego that the frosting doesn’t match My Little Pony perfectly. Like whatever that kids name’s mother did. Fuck that.
I digress. My apologies. My point was, for every snide, ridiculous DEI statement, I say this:
“When you are accustomed to privilege, equality feels like oppression.”
(Not my quote, but Imma borrow it for the rest of my life.) Suck it up every single privileged person out there. We refuse to be satisfied with what you think we should be happy with. Those days are numbered.
"rad-trad-Catholic Ross Douche-hat." I just spit coffee all over. 😂😂😂 I've never heard of Bretbug, but I have now and will avoid that like the plague. Sounds like he's afraid of strong, smart black women. GOOD. 👏👏👏
I read his column and was somehow surprised at the “nastiness” that bled throughout the entire piece.
I may be wrong but it seemed not too long ago, he was a moderate- Republican I thought, though I may be wrong I don’t want to look him up. He is not worth my time.
What I read was not moderate and it WAS very right leaning. Hey Bret why don’t we do our best to throw a wet blanket over the fire & excitement regarding the possibility of a female Presidential candidate? Why not just call her out for some unknown thing?
Kamala Harris is NOT Hillary Clinton. She is not and will not take for granted that she will win, she is and will be talking to all Americans…. even those like you who wish to crash the party and burn the party down.
I once thought he was a good journalist, not great but somewhat fair and decent.
After reading his column I now get how people have been unhappy with the NYT for a minute.
Disappointed that he could not take the excitement for what it is and enjoy the fact that we may have many historic things happening in the near future. Instead, he seemed to feel the need to make the excitement over Kamala a replay of Clinton being overconfident.
I truly hope the Times will wake up and notice Change Gon’ Come!!!!
I am absolutely certain that Obama in the coming days will endorse Harris, because of course he will. My intuition is that they are waiting (perhaps mistakenly) for a more optimum strategic moment.
There is something to be said for generating some suspense and not giving everything up on the first news cycle. His lack of a statement is obviously generating interest (and concern).
Perhaps he does have hurt feefees about not having a more determinative voice in the process, though I would hope that is not what’s holding him back. We shall see. Thank you for another excellent column.
I loved this line when I read it yesterday and it makes me smile again this morning reading it. “Even the selection of Ohio’s Senator J. D. Vance as Trump’s running mate,” Alberta writes, was “meant to run up margins with the base in a blowout rather than persuade swing voters in a nail-biter.” ”
LMAO. How’s that working out for you losers?I am not sure I’ve seen a VP pick, aside from Sarah Palin of course, be so universally disliked from the starting gate. And it’s fucking awesome. I literally prayed to anyone that was listening that Donny Hubris would pick him and the universe provided.
Not at all. They’ve (mostly) lined up behind Kamala. Tim is positively fucking giddy about Kamala! And with the addition of Sam Stein to the collective, I’d say things are going great. I wish he’d taken Charlie’s spot at Morning Shots instead of Bill, but it’s not like I’m *forced* to read him. It was never personal with that crew, it was politics. They are never Trumpers first and foremost and feeling Joe couldn’t do the job and needed to go was not a completely out of the box way to think. Did the media drive Joe’s numbers down even further? Probably. Was he on course to lose to Trump? Pretty definitely. Is Kamala def going to win? Idk, but at least now we have a fighting chance.
They weren’t in control of the “twist”, nor the timing, they hate that. Even worse, no one leaked what was happening to them!
Unfair! Unfair!
Now Democrats are telling them to shove their “good advice” up their respective asses.
They’re not having a good week.

If Bret Stephens is bugged?
Then CRUSH him like one!
Read both this piece and Mr. Wood’s; the tenor one gets from all of the editorials and op-eds disguised as articles the past couple of days is that they are ticked off that they don’t get the gladiatorial bloodletting that generates revenue.
Stephen “Pinhead” Miller has no room yowling like a hyena. What boundaries haven’t the GOP crossed? Lol
Fuck that asshole. He’ll be lucky to stay out of prison, where he belongs.

Bring it on! and your last para is so spot on it hurts

I wrote a piece about my observations as a middle aged white dude about DEI in the corporate arena on my professional blog (here: https://www.prodbistro.com/those-who-get-upset-over-dei-programs/)
It seems that all those who rail against DEI, inclusive language and the other horrors are all mediocre middle aged white dudes who would not be where they are if they actually had ro compete for it, but are positive that they "earned" their station in life.

They like saying DEI stands for "Didn't Earn It."
While they vote for a man who inherited his wealth and failed at every business he started.

Thank you!!
Bretbug was coined by Dave Karpf, a Political Science professor (and you should read his 'stack) and I was hooked.
He's afraid of being called a bedbug.
His fragility is pathetic.
And no doubt he thinks he's an excellent example of male superiority.
🙄
I heard him on some news show, and his voice is especially whiny too.
For my blood pressure, I’ll skip reading the columns. I trust your summaries. But this made me laugh out loud 😂:
“Yeah, that’s a shitty record (I will need concussion protocols for that level of eyeroll) to run on.”
I was thinking the same thing! Now instead of reading them and yelling at my device, I can just read his put downs. So much healthier

In 2016 and 2020, he waited until the convention to endorse. Above the fray. I expect he'll do the same this year.
Actually, no.
He waited until both Clinton & Biden had won enough primaries to have the necessary delegates.
Harris has got enough committed delegates now.
I hope so.
Because right now, I don't care what he does.
If he wanted to be the leader of the Democratic Party, he should have stood up yesterday.
As far as I'm concerned, the leader of the Democratic Party is Joe Biden.
Who killed the drama and got me a candidate we can rally behind.
Obama, Pelosi?
I no longer care what they want.
Pelosi endorsed Harris yesterday.
True.
But she was one of the ones discussing how to set up mini primaries and convention fights last week while pressuring Biden to step down.
And the only reason to go for mini primaries is to knock Harris out.
Whoops! Biden & Harris fixed that.

‘MALA*, bitches!
* Make America Laugh Again!
Biden put the old rope-a-dope on that particular giant orange DOPE, big-time!
🤘🏼We KAM do it! #mala
Just delish all the way!
I haven't been to The Bulwark in a while, are they still licking their wounds that it won't be an all out brawl on the floor of the convention?
