Saturday was uneventful. I woke up at a typical time, 4:00 AM, and I figured that I would just hit the road to avoid Ellay traffic.
It worked. I rolled onto the 8 freeway at 4:43AM, and I hit the grapevine at just about 7 AM, and I was on a roll. Up and over the the ‘vine, and I stopped at the Ihop at Stockdale highway for breakfast just before 8 AM.
Fueled with some coffee and tons of carbs from the buttermilk pancakes, I was back on the road by 8:38 AM. I had enough gas to get to the Coalinga exit (landmark: Harris Ranch). Fill up there, and up and over the Pacheco pass. Apart from some congestion in the 2 lane part of the pass, almost no traffic, and I didn’t even struggle around the Gilroy outlets (in years past it was a fucking zoo after Thanksgiving) and on to the last stretch on US101. My side (headed to San Francisco) was at the speed limit. Those headed south? Not so much. The bumper-to-bumper traffic headed south was in high gear. Today (Sunday) it will be much worse. Glad I am home.
About 11:55 I rolled into my garage, total travel time 7:12, including two stops for food and gas.
The week was good. I saw my stepmother, my brother and sister-in-law, as well my kid sister. I made the mistake of talking about vaccine with my brother, he has gone full Q and vax denier.
Alas, I ate far too richly, and damn, the first gout flare up in several years is with me. Time to guzzle some cherry juice1.
Three loads of laundry done, and I was able to sleep until 4:30 this morning. Woo hoo!
Yeah, I know that it is likely a myth that cherry juice helps gout, but I am not going to not try it.
