It's going about as expected, Trump is grasping at straws, seeking a lifeline, whilst the Harris Campaign continues with epic levels of outreach, GOtV efforts, and closing strong, with a shock in Iowa
I went at around 5:30 PM today to the closest early voting location to my house. Polls closed at 7 PM and I waited about 40 mins in line. They were efficient as hell getting everyone in and out, but the line was wrapped entirely around the building even as I was leaving.
I was quite impressed with the turnout, it was a high concentration of minorities, and a huge number of the people in line wore blue, Kamala shirts, or had some other indication they were voting democrats. It was well over 50% women, probably closer to 75% women. Everyone was friendly and chatting, no complaints about the wait. A MAGA cultist would have felt extremely uncomfortable in this line.
This is in a rather blue/purple large county in Florida (Hillsborough). Our Amendment 4 is driving huge turn out, and DeSantis’s fight against broadcasting the advertisements for Yes on 4 have been disastrous. Even if Florida doesn’t go blue (wishful thinking), getting rid of Skeletor Scott would be amaaaaazing.
That crazy guy running for president says that if he looses, that would be only through fraud; he has already stated he will declare he won before all the votes are counted. That is such a strange logic; why doesn’t he just save the states the millions of dollars the elections cost to run and declare himself to be the king.., oops, I mean winner tonight? /s
Can’t speak for anyone else, but I’m going to be carrying a sword cane instead of my usual rattan, at least when I’m in Kansas, for the next month or so. Our legislature FINALLY brought knife laws into the 21st Century a few years back, perhaps recognizing how stupid it was to have such strict controls on knives when everybody and his brother had a gun.
It’s all good now - switchblades, (still illegal federally, much like marijuana other places) sword canes, butterfly knives. The only things still banned are ballistic knives that shoot the blade like a gun, and in one last residual bit of idiocy and anti-Asian racism, shurikens, those throwing stars from the kung fu movies. Just seems appallingly stupid - when was the last time you heard of a murder or robbery with anything like that? “Gimme your wallet or I’ll throw this little metal star at you!” Please.
Anyway, as long as I stay in Kansas with it, it’s perfectly legal. You press a little button and draw a ~24 inch rapier blade, plus you can whack ‘em with the scabbard part. I’m betting they won’t be near as frisky with a foot of steel in their guts.
Hope it doesn’t come to that, of course, but I’d rather be ready in case it does.
I have a number of canes of the normal variety in that they have no embedded sword.
However, they are all made of black metal with silver fittings and the screw-on heads/hafts have been reinforced with metal glue to provide me with a solid, yet stylishly slender bludgeon.
Either head or tip can cause a miscreant injury in addition to giving me much needed support for my newly replaced hip.
My EDC is a stout rattan, better than an inch thick. Think of Singapore, only this isn’t as long and has a crooked handle at the end. Thinking I could rattle somebody pretty good with it if I had to. Put it this way - I sure wouldn’t want anybody to whack ME with it. Since it’s rattan, it flexes rather than breaking.
But the sword cane is much more intimidating, since it appears absolutely innocent until drawn. They can’t hurt you without closing with you, and closing with me while I’m carrying the sword cane would be . . . unwise.
One of the nice things about being old is no one looks at you sideways for carrying a stick anymore. It’s almost expected. Personally, I like the idea of carrying a stick - comes in handy in ALL SORTS of ways from helping you balance yourself to warding off stray dogs. I wish it would come back into fashion so younger men - or women, for that matter - could avail themselves without getting side eyed.
Besides the thick rattan, I have a couple of slimmer ones that work fine as walking sticks but don’t have enough heft to be effective defense tools. My “werewolf killer” with the silver head belonged to my late uncle. The shaft is some kind of dark hardwood. But the pride of my collection is the English schoolmaster’s cane my late wife bought me from Scotland. It’s the cane I’m walking with in the video of the women’s march Saturday. Not much use in a fight, but it’s a work of art. The shaft is ash, with the bark still on it, and the handle is horn, I’m guessing from a ram of some sort.
But I probably wouldn’t dare try to use it as a weapon for fear of damaging it. It’s one of my most cherished possessions.
You can buy my sword cane here, although if your locality bans knives over 3” there’s little chance it’s legal to carry. May not even be legal to POSSESS some places.
Sir. But thanks. As abysmally as some of my fellow men are behaving, it’s almost an honor to be mistaken for a woman. Like how I pretended to be Canadian when I went to Europe while Junior Bush was President.
Unwise? Indeed! I like the stealth factor of the sword cane. But where I am knives over 3" are illegal.
My canes do not appear to be weapons as such. But wait until that gleaming silver skull, or the black metal raven, or the cane topped with a shining black metal ball or the knob style top with Pegasus embossed in it, cracks that cranium!
I'm not actively seeking conflict and I have nothing to prove. But as a senior, I refuse to be a target of vicious young miscreants who enjoy preying upon those they deem to be weaker than themselves.
Looks like the old man is shuffling back to the Oval office.
Indeed.
🥂My inner 12yo salutes your inner 12yo. 😉
When you hear a local say the name, it is “le Tits” and that is aces!

Guess who won...
The Demonic Vote Stealing Operation has advanced so far that we’re able to steal Iowa now. 😈
Funny, Trumputin won Iowa.

It ain't legal to possess round these here parts ma'am. Local law don't take kindly to katanas either. Lol

Oh shit! That's so funny and you know I meant no disrespect. I made an incorrect presumption though. That is for SURE!!!

Very Theodore Marley “Ham” Brooks of you
Been to Lititz. It’s a beautiful little Pennsylvania town. Bought some Wilburbuds too.
Lititz is home to the Wilbur candy company, whose chocolate buds are far superior to the more famous chocolate company in this fine state.
And yes, in my best Darrell Hammond Sean Connery voice: "Le Tits Now!"
Are they chocolate tits? They gottem at Hooters?
