"... and I of course LET her watch it." (emphasis added)
Well, don't LET her see this, or if she has the temperament of my current SO, you would get a chock-block to the back of the neck that would pop ur helmet off! But you have an interesting conclusion that I agree with: gambling is a disease that ruins families worldwide. Nepal banned casinos decades ago. It is illegal here to make book. But I am sure addicted men and women figure out how to throw away money that would be better spent on their kids' schools or nutrition...where there is a will there is a bookie. Crypto is illegal here as well, but peeps here still hold it. Anyway, how about 'dem LIONS!
Thanks my brother! I have never been a gambler. My degree in physics and the heavy mathematics load that entailed means that I understand the concept of odds, and probabilities far more than most people, and I have far better things to spend my $$$ on. Like helping you feed the locals good ol' fashioned Pizza. A far more worthy endeavor!
Awww. thank you geoff. i think ur right... better math classes and teachers might have helped generations of future risk-takers understand just what they were betting on. Do they even teach math in the US anymore? I know they dropped band, art, civics, and critical thinking...
You have caused me to remember an artifact of mathematics education in the 1960's in the US. There was this wave of "new math" that while solid in the theory, just failed to sink in ... unless you have a brain wired for it ... and that led to a large swath of the Baby Boomer generation being largely mathematically illiterate, and they are the ones who are sucking at understanding risk and potential reward. That also led to a significant cohort of the following generation (mine) to have this ailment.
i do enjoy riffing off u. But math illiteracy is reversible, me thinks. As I realized that over COVID-19 my math skills had gone to the toilet and had never come back, so I started doing those Brilliant puzzles online, dusted off the Ti-99, and got back into it, ya know, e=mc2 basic crap. But I am probably an outlier at my age, as I see in the US Congress only ONE person who can demonstrate any math skills whatsoever, Katy Porter. If my observation is correct, then America is truly an idiocracy now and perhaps it's hopeless to think about change.
Not much of a sports fan either. Don’t mind watching baseball now and then. I’ll watch the Super Bowl for the social aspect. I have a problem supporting people destroying their brains to entertain me.
It appalls me that my government is pushing gambling on people. It doesn’t help that they give the gambling hotline number out in case “you have a problem.”
I’m all good with pot being legal, but I’d prefer it doesn’t get to the point where government is encouraging that as well.
Yeah, the power of the lobby that is driving the explosion in sports book is truly a sight to behold. Agreed though 100% on the physical toll on these entertainers, and the tragedy that they experience in later live from the CTE
I used to be a big football fan, because I enjoy the strategy of the game. It (and almost any other sport on TV) slowly became a way for me to avoid thinking about my problems. Between that and the cheating and betting, I stopped watching; my life is much better for it.

Really sad
