Iconic Jams: Parisienne Walkways
A long productive career yielded plenty of standouts, but without a doubt, the signature piece of his music remained a constant, and a crowd pleaser.
I have already written on Gary Moore as an influence in my guitar journey, but this episode of Iconic Jams will feature a staple from his repertoire: Parisienne Walkways.
Parisienne Walkways was a song written by Moore, and Phil Lynott of Think Lizzy, and the earliest recording of it I have is from the 1978 solo release, “Back on the Streets.” I grabbed my copy of this when I saw it on a trip to Japan, and it is a great recording as Moore was moving from a more pop-ish mainstream rock in the early to mid 70’s into his hard rock/metal playing of the early 1990’s.
Gary Moore had several iterations of his style from 60’s vintage rock, hard rock, to modern (and classic) Blues, but one track that he carried with him, from smoke filled clubs, to arena packing hard rock, and the later music festivals he played1 at was - you guessed it - Parisienne Walkways.
From the opening notes, to the finish, everything that is in between is just jaw dropping amazing. But, don’t take my word for it, listen for yourself…
Moore was a fixture at Montreaux jazz festival, and The Monsters of Rock
