Sometimes virtuosity is not needed, instead intensity, and storytelling take the cake. Today we revisit a classic rock staple, Paradise by the Dashboard Lights is a kickin' jam
I could go into long, heartfelt love for Meat Loaf, that song, that album, RHPS, etc. But instead, I will assign extra points for the clip of Raul Julia from The Gumball Rally, a film almost no one remembers but which is vastly superior to the film that swamped it, Cannonball Run.
I remember it! David Carradine breaks parole to drive in it with his girlfriend/parole officer Veronica Hamel—
No, wait, that was CANNONBALL—*another* movie about an illegal cross-country race that was staged in protest to the 55 MPH speed limit! That one was written and directed by Paul Bartel, and released in the U.S. through co-financier New World Pictures.
I still listen to that song. And I still go to RHPS as often as I can manage. It’s my happy place. Meatloaf’s death was pathetic. He didn’t get the vaccine because he resented the hell out of being told what to do. Another senseless dumbass who didn’t have to die. Nearly impossible for me to respect that decision and not bring politics and poor leadership into it. But RHPS is still my happy place.
The album and this song were the soundtrack of my high school years. I suppose I’ve “outgrown” it, but when it comes on, I don’t turn it off, and I still know every word by heart! Rocky Horror, well let’s just say I saw that more than a few times in HS and college. Thanks for the (good) trip down memory lane. 🦇😂
I'd far rather remember Meat Loaf as Eddie from ROCKY HORROR than as the Trump supporter he became later in life.
Yep, his full throated support for Trump is up there with John Voight, and others
WAS right up there—he died on January 20, 2022.

NO doubt, Gumball Rally defines the genre
I have "Bat Out Of Hell" and "Bat Out Of Hell II" on my laptop, and I love them both.
My husband knows every word of this song, and while that's not the only reason I married him it might have been a prominent factor.
Most definitely a classic! Been a minute since I have heard it and it has so many memories attached!
Thanks for the memories ☺️

Oh yeah, Saturday nights in high school, we watched RHPS at midnight, every weekend
