Great post, G. Do you think the party has been ruined by the neoliberal bent, not to mention the oodles of corporate money, they adopted way back when?

I think they are completely fucked. Effed in the A.

Part of it is the neoliberal turn that really began with Clinton, but escalated during Obama. The money was and remains a huge driver, but the warning signs were there much earlier.

They have taken the (disastrous) position that women and working class men would remain in their tent as they went out for the big donor-palooza.

But one can't discount the damage that the intersectionality, and the SJW scolds of the far left have wrought. They forced the rank and file Dems to elevate those concerns (and I will admit that I care about them) to a degree that it made it trivial for the Republicans to paint them as out of touch.

Every time I try to gently mention that making that front and center is hazardous to the coalition, I got slapped down, told that I was insufficiently invested, and that I - as a cis-hetero male - should sit the fuck down and let the adults conduct the business.

Now the far left is saying that "oh well, we never really were for that". Fucking bananas.

And I am really fucking tired of the Never Trump former republicans whinging about how poor Dems are at messaging, when they spend literally 4 mother fucking decades painting the Dems as out of touch losers. Now they think they have the winning ticket and plan.

Fuck them all sideways with a rusty chainsaw. They really think they are more influential than they are. For all their efforts, Trump and MAGA has consistently increased their capture and vote share in all of the elections Trump has been involved.

That tells me that they are about as effective as the fucking Democrats and their workshopped/focus group tested bullshit.

Sorry, I am feeling like the Dems are going to be in for many cycles of election losses.

From today's "Dingus of the Week": "In response to the news, conservative commentators were quick to argue that men vote Republican because they’re sick of Democrats hating on men. Which I think is just another way to say, “I haven’t given a woman an orgasm since the Carter administration.”

::Then I read about the secret group of Democrat leaders who are meeting in posh hotels to discuss how to reach young men, how to finance a slate of influencers to talk to them and make them realize how wonderful Democrats are.

::That makes me want to shoot myself in the face.::

Headknife!

Because a mere Facepalm! can no longer cover it....

I take it that actually DOING something to build support among young men is a step too far for them? I mean, it's not as if they could legalize recreational marijuana on a Federal level or anything—

Oh...wait. They absolutely COULD! It's completely legal in over half the country, and only completely illegal in four states! (Sadly, one of those states is Texas.) By legalizing pot on a Federal level they'd win the young male voter demographic over, and cut the legs out from under Organized Crime by no longer making it illegal for a FDIC bank to take money from pot sales...also, they'd stick a fork in the eye of those fucking Nazis in the Texas Government (a thought that so appealed to me I tried to get OpenArt AI to generate me a picture of it, but it sadly went AROUND that idea rather than giving it to me!).

And then, don't stop there—support tuition-free college, the right of women to get abortions and birth control, and a tripling of the Federal Minimum Wage (which, a bunch of states aside, is STILL stuck at $7.25/hour). Those would be harder to win, but if the Dems started there and kept at it (like Republicans did with their agenda), they'd gain more followers every election....

All of that is better than treating young men as a research subject in a psych101 semester project.

Thanks, Geoff. I recommend reading Angela’s comment. It hit the nail on the head for me.

French made some salient points, but thinking Jordan Peterson is the answer made me gag, as does the Dem search for a lefty Joe Rogan. No, just no. How about someone who’s a good listener instead of some talking head.
