Milestones: 700
A momentous start to the day, thanks to all who are here. The journey continues!
When I first started this, in early-ish 2023, I didn’t expect anything. I was free forming it, riffing on music and gaming. Two activities that I had picked up again during the pandemic era, gaming and playing guitar, became the nexus of this page. I was posting every couple of days, and frankly for the first 4 months or so, I had no subscribers.
Of course, I was active on Substack, engaging with writers and other commenters. That led to a couple of people clicking on the “subscribe” button, and then someone prompted me to open up to comments. Something I pretty much ignored.
Since then, there have been several evolutions in what I post, when, and how often.
And in that, I have found my voice. That seems to resonate with an ever-increasing number of people, who are then convinced that they *might* want to read more of me.
This morning, I woke up to this:
I am gob smacked. Seven hundred of you fabulous people have decided that you want my blathering posts in their already busy inboxes.
Wow. For someone who is a mere product manager in tech, who studied physics in college, who plays guitar badly, it is mind-boggling that you are here for the ride.
I just have to say “Thank You”. You are all fabulous people.
(I was looking for a clip from Absolutely Fabulous where Patsy Stone (played by Joanna Lumley) is asked “What do you see when you look in a mirror?" to which she replies: “I see a mirror, looking fabulous.”
That’s how I feel when saw the subscriber total this morning.
I am honored, humbled, and somewhat horrified that 700 of you care.
Thanks!
Some musical magic
Since it is my newsletter, and I like to impart some of my favorite music, I will leave you with a track from one of the all time best live albums, UFO’s “Strangers in the Night”. The track is “Love to Love” and the main lead played by my idol Michael Schenker, is just chilling, ethereal, and electrifying. Do give this a listen, and tell me if it is not all that.
That’s all she wrote folks!
Def my kind of jam, both the song and your scribblings. Carry on!
Congratulations!!! With its many downsides, the internet has provided the ability to “connect” with interesting people all over the world that you’ll never meet in real life. It’s one of the things I love about Substack.
The music posts are always good. Apparently, I’ve led a sheltered (modern) musical life. But I discuss them with my husband, who has not led a sheltered (modern) musical life, and you and he must have similar tastes in music. We’ve had some great discussions. Thanks for the UFO song! 💖
As to gaming, I tried Crash Bandicoot once when my kids were young and couldn’t figure out how to get past the first level. End of gaming. 😂
