Some movies that I remember loving as a strapping young lad that today have me wondering what the fuck was I thinking. I am sure I will have a few more to write about later
Jason Robards casually ordering a new "Michael" (an android enforcer with an unwanted grin, after it has been shot to pieces) as he just as casually sentences teenagers to the " farm.. immediately" ( i.e.. a snapped neck!) in an underground commitee meeting is one of the best bits of modern cinema. Honestly... there are so many great scenes... Don Johnson's face as he begins to doubt his "luck" at providing the "new blood' for the "down under" post apocalyptic recreation of middle America. ... his classically educated dog relishing his choice of words ( Brian?) and a population reduced to mining a desert with explosives for tins of food.
Best part of WTBR was right at the beginning, where Murray/Thompson tells the dog “Nixon!” and the dog runs over and bites the crotch of a life-sized manikin of Nixon flashing his famous double-V victory sign. It was pretty much downhill from there.
Anything by Wes Craven. I’d rather sit through a root canal.
I’m going to have a hard time with you if you diss Logan’s Run. Even if most of it looked to be filmed in a shopping mall. Even if I’m almost ready for my second go-round on Carousel. “Runner, run!”
I'm a bit older and was a reader, I read 1984, Animal Farm, Farenheit451, Handmaids Tale and Lord of the flies, most of which are banned by republicans. Some of the best books I've ever read.
I remember that Catcher in the Rye was banned, so as an adult I bought a copy. It is a good book, but for the life of me, I can't understand why it is regularly on the forbidden books list.
The book of Fahrenheit 451 was better, I think the tradeoffs they made to have a visually appealing movie is part of the problem with why it doesn't hold up.
What… no American Beauty? No Insomnia? No Inception?
Lay off the little guys.
Punch up.
Those technically weren't from my childhood.
That said, I sorta liked American Beauty, but I will admit that it is freaky, and now given what we know about Kevin Spacey
ABAHD is hilarious. It's supposed to be.

A remake please...
A Boy and his Dog- I remember being apparently the first in the theater to tumble to the fate of the girl and laughing very out loud in the silence.
Nice memory, actually.
You said They Live. Brilliant political commentary.

Oh yeah, that "Nixon" as a trigger word is killer.
Saw those movies and can concur.

Nah, I love Logan's Run.
But yeah, the effects and models they used in filming were hardly ground breaking.
Panic In Year Zero. Ray Milland.
My first post apocalyptic movie seen late at night on a small TV.
I haven't watched it since but it was impactful to an 8 year old.
The entire John Hughes catalogue. 😂

In my opinion the book is almost always better than the movie.

I re-read 1984 probably every other year.
I haven’t watched either of them lately, but I trust that I’d consider time spent watching They Live or Omega Man could be better spent.
Big Trouble in Little China I’m sure is still classic, tho.
Oh yeah, Omega Man, that and the rest of the Charlton Heston post-apocalyptic movies (the original Planet of the Apes excepted) should be in the list.
Big Trouble in Little China does hold up well, but I credit that to James Hong pulling it together.
Please tell me Zardoz will be showing up here.
Great graphic. Have seen them all.
Yeah, the 1970's was an interesting decade for SciFi movies
