I bought my dad a copy of Fleck's "Perpetual Motion" where he plays classical music on his 5 string, and it is masterful. The album has two versions of Moto Perpetuo, one traditional, and one bluegrass with a guitar.
Plenty of grist to dig through.
Then there is Fleck's Flecktones, a fusion-y take with the god of bass, Victor Wooten.
Damn, I am going to have to crack the vaults to listen today!
My first introduction to electrifying, soul stirring Blues was John Lee Hooker. A true Legend and Giant of Music who reverberated Charisma and Presence from every pore. Thanks for the memories, once heard, impossible to forget. Magnificent!
I saw John Lee Hooker in Santa Cruz in ‘91. I will always remember. Rest In Power, Bluesman.
Not a serious blues fan, but this guy is the real thing in any genre. Now, can we talk about bluegrass?
I will have to dig up some classic Bela Fleck!
Please! And anything Alison Krauss.
Oh just heard about this on WXPN:

Great post Geoff. Saw him in SF at his Boom Boom room back in the day.

Thanks for reminding me how great JLH was. So good.
I love John Lee Hooker. Love the blues also. You need to live a few years to truly appreciate the blues.
