Music: Lisa-X, playing a clinic for Laney
Just oodles of talent, dripping from her fretboard.
Ok, the upfront matter: I found this in my morning Youtube ritual. Its title is simply “Stratus, The Pump”, and it was a 21 minute video that was recorded by a clinic put on by the amplification maker, Laney1.
The star of this is Lisa-X, a phenomenal young Japanese player, but she is not the only axe slinger of note. Joining her on stage are Alex Hutchings, and Jack Thammarat.
Oh, I forgot to mention the drummer. He looks rather young, and goes by the name Rasta, and I gotta say, if he’s as young as he looks, he will have a long and epic career.
The event was in Thailand, and the video is these outstanding artists taking turns to shine.
But to me, Lisa-X is just awesome.
In the way-back, when I was very active on Facebook, I found a lot of young guitar players, and did my best to promote their work. People like Ayla, Essani Dey (sister of the killer bass player Mohini), and Andressa Mouxi. They all floored my with their talent.
Now, nearly a decade on, I relish when I see them become established and still delivering killer jams.
I never heard of Lisa-X before this, but apparently she broke through in Asian social media circles when she was just 13, and now she standing up, and delivering, taking no quarter, and tasteful licks flow out of her hands like it is perfectly natural.
The two songs here, Stratus and The Pump are great vehicles for artists to showcase their talents. The Pump being a cover of a Jeff Beck tune, and anyone who knows Beck’s catalog know that he was a master of making the git-box deliver sounds and music that speaks on many levels.
I hope you click on this link and enjoy this repast of delightful jams. Three guitars and a drum kit. No spandex, no hair gel, no flash, just solid jams.
Clinics are things that gear makers put on to highlight their sponsored artists, to get the message out, and yeah, it is old school marketing. Nuthin’ wrong with that.
DAAAYUMMM!!! Not only her but how the he’ll don’t we know RASTA on drums??? He looks like he is 12 but sounds like a drummer from the 70s. Excellent video - thx for posting it. This blew me away.
Amazing!
