Music: Now, for something completely different
And by different, I mean the song that shall not be played, done beautifully, taking it somewhere new.
I have a gawdawful early call this morning that I am leading, and that means I woke up early than usual1, and in my journey of looking at Youtube for interesting music and bits, I stumbled across this cover of that which shall not be played, a.k.a. Stairway to Heaven.
This time though, it is by Gagaku, and it is a cover that blends the traditional instruments of the ethereal Jimmy Page (that is Gibson guitars) with Japanese traditional instruments.
I wasn’t sure what to expect when I clicked on this, but I am blown away. This is one dude, multiple instruments, blended together masterfully, both a tribute to the almighty Led Zep, but also a tribute to Japanese folk instruments.
I am not sure what I did to deserve this being dished up, but I will take it.
The usual is like 4 AM, but I was up before 3 today
Totally different for sure! “And now for something completely different”, first time I heard it was Rocky and Bullwinkle. I know I stamped the expiration date on myself.
Very nice job by that gentleman. His headgear should be required at all future performances of the song that shall not be mentioned. If performers cannot carry off the song and hat with his level of aplomb they should resign in disgrace.
Also, I’m not going to complain about waking up too early this morning now that I find it was 2 hours later than you.
