Music Store Nostalgia
Fondly remembering the countless hours spent in local independent music shops.
This afternoon, I was playing while watching some TV (we have Juneteenth off, yay) and I did something I haven’t done in a long LONG LONG time, I broke a high E string.
Sidebar: most guitar players go through an arc, when you are learning, you break a ton of stings, then you get it, and they become rare. Finally, you get to where a set of strings will last for years.
As I had no spare strings, I needed to head off to buy a set, since I was out of stock, so I headed out to Guitar Center, until I remembered that there was a local store, called Music Village. My wife had shopped there for a set of violin strings1 and I thought, what the heck, so I turned around, and went to the local store.
It was small, homey, and felt like many of the local independent shops that I used to wile away countless hours in my youth, staring at guitars, pedals, and all the cool stuff on offer.
Turns out that they also do consignment sales, and it just so happens that I have a couple of amplifiers that I no longer have need of, so I took in my Fender Super 60, and it is now on their floor for sale. If you are interested in a killer 60 watt combo, head on down and check it out.
It was fun and homey, I liked it. I will go back
Guitar strings are typically ~$6 a set, but a “cheap” set of violin strings is about $50 😮
