Music: Take Five for solo guitar
Lucas Brar brings a percussive technique to a jazz classic. Dave Brubeck would be honored.
I am a fan of many genres and types of music, but when you can combine Guitar with some iconic tunes, often amazing things are created.
Probably 40 years ago, I was introduced to the Dave Brubeck Quartet, and one of the all time classic pieces is his “Take Five”. Dave Brubeck got his degree in Music by promising his advisor to not go in to teaching. Dave was fine with that, taking his odd time signatures, and period appropriate arrangements (very swing-y) out and had an amazing recording career.
There are so many great exemplars of Dave Brubeck’s work, but Take Five is one that comes to mind.
If you listen to Brubeck’s recording, you get his piano, a lucid sax, a driving bass line, and a jam that keeps you toe tapping.
In this arrangement for solo guitar, Lucas Brar brings a lively interpretation with his unique style to this jazz standard.
And it is just amazing. I hope you enjoy this as much as I did.
thanks Geoff, I've always loved jazz guitar, and Dave Brubeck!💗🎶
