My sister came home with this album one day and i promptly wore her album out. Some albums just grab you. I bought The Beatles White Album and played the grooves out. Nothing better than spinning platters.
This is one of the best covers of this classic, classic, classic (it's that classic, to my mind) song. It's the drum line that makes this cover. IMO the guitar is a bit better than the minimalism of the original. Where other covers usually fall short is the drum line.
Grace Slick had some of the best pipes in the business, which worked well with the more restrained music of the original, whereas the more robust support of the strong but lighter/breathy at times vocals of this cover works equally well to deliver a fantastic rendition of a song I remember listening to on a tiny portable AM radio when it was released.
One of my favorites! I read (in Wikipedia) that Slick said that Ravel’s Bolero was also an inspiration for the song. You can really feel that. Thanks for the bonus Embryonic Journey. I’m not really familiar with the album, other than White Rabbit.
Awesome find
The Austin Lounge Lizards have great cover out there. https://youtu.be/WM_rXX58mTo?si=N_X4uA1zmbyF4x9p
That is damn fun! Thanks for sharing.
I totally enjoyed that music. Thanks so much.

This will be my music for the day…. I lover this cover. Showy video, too. I had never heard of the Cave Dwellers!

Indeed, they do it more than justice. Alas, I was 2 years old when it was released, so alas, no AM transistor radio memories for me.

That whole album (Surrealistic Pillow) is outstanding. I do recommend listening through it for other gems.
Already on it! 😉
