Music: We Want MOORE!
A sleeper album, delivers to us one of the most soulful tunes, played by one of the all-time greatest guitar slingers in the world.
I have written about Gary Moore, the Irish legend who left us in 2012, but his legacy lives on.
Here is a recording from Montreaux, a festival that was a regular stop for Monsieur Moore.
The original album that this track was on was released in 1978, titled “Back on the Streets”, and apart from this song, and one that he did with Phil Lynott titled “Spanish Guitar”, the album is nothing special.
But while Spanish guitar is a good tune, the real standout is Parisienne Walkways. A bluesy jam, that just rocks hard from the first notes, to the very end. Gary played this often. Both times I saw him live, this was on the playlist, and both times it nearly brought me to tears.
You MUST click through, and then listen to the sustain he gets about about 2:45. Just magical.
The cut aways to the audience, you can see them all just grooving on this epic tour de force of music.
This is ten minutes, forty-three seconds of time well spent.
A true monster of rock!1
Fun fact, the guitar he is playing was sold to him by Peter Green. Peter Green was the core member of the original Fleetwood Mac. After Moore passed, the guitar was acquired by Kirk Hammet of Metalica. Kirk is the least talented of its provenance of prior owners. (I will die on that hill)
Just brilliant. Emotional man, I think. He played with such vigor and power and felt every single note. Thanks for sharing this.... I'll be listening to a lot more Gary.
You really undersold the artistry on display. That wasn't just 10:43 well spent, that was the aural definition of Fuckin' A.
