Musical Remembrance - Mojo Nixon
A sad day, a true rock rebel with an instinct to create catchy fun songs, making millions of people happy dissing one former Eagles vocalist at a time
I woke up early this morning, the better half was snoring, and I had a headache, so about 3:30 I wandered into the bathroom to take some vitamin I, and then I returned to bed and picked up the iPad, and read the news.
I stumbled across a short obit in the Times that informed me of the passing of Mojo Nixon. Apparently he passed due to a “cardiac event” during the night after a wild party while on the “Outlaw Country” cruise.
I was saddened, as I have fond memories of his music. He got his start in the college band circle, and his trademark was satirical songs that were part rockabilly, part punk, and part gonzo.
A woman I dated through the 1990’s introduced me to this quirky artist, that she found when attending UCSB, and I found several songs that have found their way into my playlist rotation.
I mean, with a title like “Don Henley Must Die”, what is not to love?
Or there is the instant classic, “Destroy All Lawyers1”?
He also did the soundtrack for the comical video game “Redneck Rampage” sorta a “Doom” for Bubbas. I mean, you power up with Moonpies.
So, I will spin the disks, binge on some moon pies, and pour one out for Mojo.
The irony, the woman I dated was studying to become a lawyer… Who said lawyers had no sense of humor?
