No, I will not allow ads Atlantic...
I pay for my sub, thus I feel like I do not need to help line your pockets with ad-revenue
I’ve been a paid subscriber of The Atlantic for several years. I like (much of) their reporting, and the cost is worth it for me.
I also use an ad blocker. Have for at least a decade now.
Every time I log into The Atlantic and click on an article, I get a pop-up that urges me to allow ads on The Atlantic.
Um, how best to put this…
FUCK OFF. I pay you $160 a year for my subscription. You have made money off of me, so I do not feel even the slightest twinge that I am cheating you out of money by blocking ads.
It would be different if you weren’t the worst whores in the business about your paywall1.
How about this. I will turn off my ad blocker, IFF2 you make gifted links valid for more than 14 days.
What, you’re not going to do that? Then fuck you, the adblocker stays active.
seriously, only the WSJ is more militant about not giving you a chance to read even a single free article a month. And I’ll be fucked if I am ever gonna give any of my $$$ to a Murdoch owned property.
from my mathematics education, IFF == if and only if
Great rant, Geoff.
Nice to see an "iff" in the wild, too. Not that long ago, I read an article on proofreading/copyediting, which related the tale of someone editing a mathematician's book manuscript and changing each "iff" to "if". That was gobsmacking, but then I considered how incurious that person must be, to see repeated instances of the word and never check a dictionary, and was smacked afresh in the gob.
You go boy!
