Surely the media doesn't want Fascism to prevail, does it? Perhaps you should rethink that premise, as the American media moguls were more than happy to help sanitize the worst of the Nazis.
I listened to the podcasts and now I’m totally depressed. Very interesting, but the vast majority of people alive today are totally unaware of this (including me until now). I hate the NYT with a passion even more now, especially its nepo baby owner. That they could’ve saved lives just by reporting the facts they knew…… unconscionable. BTW - I cut down on the 2 hours by speeding up the playback. I’ve gotten so used to doing it, that it doesn’t bother me!
Thanks to you and Scott Dworkin and others on here who are taking the mainstream press to task for their bias. It’s disgusting and all based on their economic interests. And their bruised egos that Kamala won’t waste her time talking to them. May we the people prevail! Keep up the good and important work.
The MSM is why we truly are underdogs in the campaign. They are totally in the tank for tr mp and are undermining the successes of Harris-Walz. They think they can influence the outcome, but people are leaving the droves, and not taking the click bait.
How I Learned to Up My Serotonin Levels and Stop Panicking: I gave up all three of my MSM subs: Atlantic, NYT, and WaPo. I read Substack for politics, and a little AP and Guardian for straight news, not politics.
One other thing. If y’all are still on the socials, give Scott Dworkin a follow. He runs campaigns - daily - to force the media to change their headlines. He’s quite effective.
So, listening to the podcast and something occurred to me … the more the media doesn’t cover all the crazy shit Donny says because it’s “old news”, the less credibility they have when normal - non MAGA - people are exposed to him again and realize that the MSM isn’t telling them anything about his (lack of) mental acuity or his ranting grievance fests and are focusing on shit like how his campaign people can’t get him to stay on message - for the 100th time.
The New York Times is a lifestyle brand, not a news organization. Both the Washington Post and CNN are trying to do something similar because both are losing money. I get about 98% of my news via independent outlets. Whether it’s Defector or Substack or Puck or whatever , there are so many smart people out here who are still doing journalism. Some of my fave Substacks/former Substacks are those who take some slop the MSM is blathering about and tearing it to shreds.
There are like 3 people I read at WaPo, 3 or 4 at the NYT Opinion and Charlie Warzel, Jerusalem Demsas , Yair Rosenberg & the Daily newsletter @ the Atlantic
I think you are basically right. But I also worry that we have passed peak "Newsletter", as in how many people can make a good living on their writing and building an audience of people who can afford $50 or so a year.
I probably lay out $800 or more (I've not tallied it) in Substack subscriptions, and I think hard before mashing the "go paid" button on any more.
Like the "Creator" economy, where places like Youtube and Spotify, pay content creators for traffic, a revenue split of the advertisements, this feels like it is not sustainable.
(sidebar: it really fucking pisses me off that people like Matt Taibbi, Glen Greenwald, and Bari Weiss make bank spewing their trite shit)
In any case, these lifestyle brands (I really think you are on to something there) will continue to struggle, and outlets here (*cough* The Bulwark *cough*) want to become lifestyle businesses, and I am not sure the market is big enough.
Hope you enjoy the podcasts. I really like Robert Evans and his guests. He does good research.
Funny. There was a piece about Donald in the NYT this morning and it had like 250 comments and every one of them was like “nobody cares about this trash anymore!” and “Why do you insist on covering this liar like he could ever be normal?” And so on. I have a feeling the glory days of clicks for stuff about “Little Donny fuckface” are coming to a close. I am seriously getting the vibe that America is ready to move on.
That is encouraging. There was a roundtable of their OpEd writers after Kamala's speech on Thursday, and Ross Douthat was an insufferable C-word. He really is big sad that Harris is surging, and that his precious, the eradication of Abortion (his rad-trad Catholic vibe) is likely to fall by the wayside.
Yes, Jeff’s posts are GREAT and his colorful language adds to the accuracy of what he says as well as the entertainment value. They are one of the highlights of my day.
But the truths he reveals really do paints an accurate picture of the MSM. The bias is SO obvious, their motivations are multiple and despicable. Putting headlines / articles about statements from both camps side by side illustrates the differences of the coverage. Harris/WALZ have two opponents this fall, MAGA and the media. Until they show a willingness to be truly equal on their analysis of the campaigns, fuck ‘em,
Oh, and let’s not forget Jeff’s offer NYT, WaPo and CNN, among others.

I listen while I walk my dog, I get an hour plus every day to listen to the podcasts

What is the name of the podcast?
"Behind the Bastards"

Yes, Scott is Doing Something!
Yeah, he does great work!

Unfortunately, the big money has always been in "selling out."
(Come to think of it, that's why it's called selling out.)
I should add that I love watching Chris Cilizza whinge about how not enough people are paying him.
Wah wah was call the Waahmbulance
Excited to watch the videos, thanks for sharing!

(For a humorous take on the dreaded C-Word, I recommend The Oatmeal's take - https://theoatmeal.com/comics/c_word )
The press is dying a slow death. And between you and Uncle Jeff, I get my hearty dose of perfect profanity! 😂

“Here’s your binkey!” Don’t choke on it, a-holes.
I will definitely listen to the shows soon. Thank you!
Thanks Sweaty! The cross ref to Jeff Tiedrich is good - you guys profanely and wittily skewer the shitheads everyday. I live for it.
