Every once in a while I get the urge to hear Cannonball Adderley. Brings back memories of my Jazz music interest while a student in San Francisco in the 1960’s.

I’ve been listening to Smooth Jazz on Music Choice and Sirius XM’s Watercolors for years, and I’ve never even heard of Pat Metheny. Thanks for the suggestion!

He's not "smooth jazz." He's at a whole different level of music, he's unique and for me, mind-blowing. Best driving music ever.

Try Secret Story, find a live version, it's astounding how he combines sound and emotion and harmonies.

I literally feel his music physically. He's still touring, by himself now without the band

He's a master...

Pat Metheny is, in my opinion, the most brilliant musician on the planet. I've been following him since 1977 and have seen him live 9 times. His music astonishes me and I can hear a piece I've listened to a hundred times and it still affects me physically and emotionally. He is remarkable.

Indeed. I discovered him in the early 1980's, and he is distinctive. He also is everywhere, he plays with everyone, and it is always a treat to discover one of these collaborations.

Thanks for the comment!

Lyle Mays is in that unique category as well. The two of them wrote the most amazing music. I've always been a fan of piano in all its forms, but Lyle, like Pat, is a whole different dimension of music. We are fortunate to have their collaborative experience as well as their solo ventures and exploring with other artists. What a gift !!!! Thanks for writing about Metheny. The first time I heard him he was touring with Joni Mitchell and hearing his solo in Amelia - I went down that rabbit hole and never came out.

I will do a Take Five with Dave Brubeck anytime.

How I missed Pat Metheny I don’t know. Will be getting his CD soon.

When I do my weight routines it is with Taj Mahal, Brubeck, Miles Davis, Booker T. and the MGs or even piano concertos.

Thanks!
