The Future is Bright: Jasmine Crockett

After the Red-Wave petered out, the Dem's went on offense, and their incoming pool of talent are bringing the fire, causing the hapless shitbirds of the Freedom Conference to look buffoonish

My last post was the usual screed on the human garbage, and now I need to counter that with something positive. There are some junior congress critters that are doing amazing work on committees and on the floor of Congress.

Today in the Times, “Freshmen Democrats Work to Turn Biden Impeachment Effort on It’s Head”, a great article about the fantastic work these juniors are bringing to the table, and the delight of watching then fillet the Trumpiest MAGAts like James Comer, and Jim Jordan, leaving them flopping around like fish out of water. It is a beautiful thing to watch.

I think I need a cigarette after that¹!

Representative Jasmine Crockett was sitting in a House Oversight Committee hearing last fall, growing increasingly frustrated as she listened to Republicans accuse President Biden of impeachable offenses without producing any evidence, when she had an idea.

Ms. Crockett, a freshman Democrat from Texas and former defense attorney, summoned an aide and asked them to quickly print out a stack of photos showing the boxes of sensitive government documents stashed by a toilet at Mar-a-Lago, former President Donald J. Trump’s club in Palm Beach, Fla.

Moments later, Ms. Crockett was brandishing the photos above her head, accusing Republicans of ignoring clear evidence that Mr. Trump had violated the law while pushing allegations against Mr. Biden for which they had shown no proof.

“When we start talking about things that look like evidence, they want to act like they blind,” Ms. Crockett said of Republicans, spitting her words with a mix of outrage and bemusement. “These are our national secrets,” apparently in a toilet, she added, using an expletive to describe the plumbing.

Yeah, that’s a long pull-quote, but goddamn, she’s just magnificent.

Clearly, once the Democrats lost the majority, they did a deep introspective and decided to combat this mano-a-mano:

It’s a strategy that Democrats began planning out more than a year ago. Back in January 2023, they selected seven freshmen to sit on the Oversight panel, the most of any committee. The group included lawyers with debate experience and members who had a sense for how to communicate in a way that could catch fire on social media and break through the noise of a highly polarized environment.

How about that, instead of ceding the narrative to the Republican bomb-throwers the leadership built a bulwark to counter it blow-for-blow. And all the viral clips of Crockett, Goldman and Moskowitz needling the MAGA Trumpists is just catnip. This will not pull the MAGA true believers heads out of their asses, but it will hit the moderates, and the independents, and cause them to look beyond the right-wing media echo chambers and question the blind obeisance to the tangerine hippo that is getting humiliated in court by an Adult Film star.

I am at serious risk of overdosing on the schadenfreude and running out of popcorn.

As for Crockett, Goldman, and Moskowitz, you are my heroes!
