Too good to not share: Hendrix plays Machine Gun
Jimi Hendrix once again shows why he was the king of cool in his era.
Rumor has it that Jimi Hendrix didn’t sing because he thought his voice wasn’t good enough, until he heard Dylan, and then he said why not.
Not sure if that is true, but when Hendrix began singing, it was magical, and while he left us too early, he left us with plenty of memories.
Memories like this outstanding live recording of his song Machine Gun.
Playing a 60’s CBS-era Fender Stratocaster in black, a right handed model flipped upside down, as was his wont.
And he shows us to this day how it is done.
Enjoy this masterclass in cool.
I’m one of the lucky ones who saw him perform. It was an incredible experience.
Hurrah!! Thank you!! No mistaking Jimi on guitar, that sound.... A friend and I rented an apartment in an old Victorian in the Haight, summer of '67. Little did we realize....! One day we were walking across the Panhandle of Golden Gate Park, and there he was, with a couple of band mates, playing outside. An impromptu mini concert, there were maybe half a dozen people, swaying and dancing. What a treat for us! I saw him in SF a few times, every time a musical epiphany. 🎶
