YouTube - Ads are no longer avoidable

I guess their ad performance has fallen off a cliff, so now they need to get eyeballs up.

I have long enjoyed an ad-free experience on YouTube, as ad blockers have blissfully striped all those pesky ads.

It was always something I knew existed, but because I was an early adopter of ad blockers, I virtually never saw them¹. Life was good. No, it was great!

Late last week that changed. Suddenly I was hit with a popover:

Looks like the gig is up. I could pay Google $13.99 a month for YouTube premium. I could hunt for a better ad blocker that isn’t detected. Or I could just suck it up and skip the ads.

For now, I will start capturing the insipid ads that YT serves up.

First up is Wix (argh, I fucking HATE wix)

Follow that up with Google searching for SW engineers:

Are their recruiters that fucking lazy to place ads on fucking YT? Seriously, that is just like cannibalization.

Then they serve up some content ads, forced watch the first which is some lame Wells Fargo ad:

Seriously, Wells Fargo has been fined for ripping off their customers, I am not surprised they have to advertise to try to rope in some fresh meat…

I could go on, but alas, I have to watch this shit now. Fuck.

1. Sure, I usually don’t install an ad blocker on the Safari browser on my Macs so when I would hit YT from there, I was inundated with ads
