I feel for you, truly. I'm older than you, and it's disheartening to see so many old quotations—that have been memes longer than the term has existed—not be recognized.

The only thing missing from your post is a "Get off my lawn!"

I have a name placard that I flash when someone calls me "Mr. Anderson" that says "Neo", a reference to 1999's "The Matrix". Kids these days don't get that reference either.

Sad

I heard Hugo Weaving's voice as I read that; it's a well-conditioned response for me.

Truth be told, I was a little concerned when my kids' dad started using movie dialogue as his primary form of conversation; but their vocabulary never suffered for it, and they can make references as appropriate but also speak like actual humans too. At least movie references were an enduring cultural touchstone ... how long is the lifespan of one of today's memes?

Hugo Weaving has huge range. I have a Blu-ray copy of The Adventures of Prescilla, Queen of the Desert, and he is magnificent in it. I will guess that the MAGA crowd will not be fans of that movie.

I use Mel Brooks and Monty Python movie quotes like punctuation.
