Something's up at the Grey Lady, and one has to wonder if they are purposely this obtuse. Regardless, their wit or attempts to be click-bait fall flat, and really exposes their biases
As infuriating as this is, it’s at a point where personally you just shrug and think it’s The NY Times…It’s the same as telling someone to go away by saying F off Fox News Breath. Interesting how these once respected or at least credible at times media sites, are now working their way into the common tongue as insults.
I read somewhere that the newsroom at the Times is changing (demographics) and the newer staff are all younger millennials and Gen Z, and they are causing a lot of turmoil. Of course that doesn't explain this shit-show, but the posit I have heard is the old guard doing this to tweak the 'youngs', alas, it is doing more to sully the reputation of the "Paper of Record".
I keep my sub mainly because they are one of the few organizations with the resources to do in depth reporting around the world.
I do avoid the Opinion pages for the most part though, as that just gets my blood pressure boiling. I glanced at the French OpEd on the Tik Tok bill, and he sure loves him some First Amendment abuse.
Check out the INDIGNITY Morning Podcast from Tom Scoca. It’s a daily WTAF is the NYT pushing today and it’s great!
The thing that kills me is that if these headline writers just pulled something different from the article to *headline*, the framing of half the shit they print would be viewed completely differently. Especially given the list of what people actually CLICK on that Jigs highlights. Seems like most people are grazing headlines and reading garbage. Sounds like ‘Murica to me!
It's all banana cake Geoff. I don't know why in the hell I've been a subscriber since 1978, dutifully resubscribing each year, and never even doing a single Sunday Crossword in over a decade. It's crazy. Every morning I read the headlines, and like u, palm slap my head on every other one. The one's I do pick to read, I can't finish. But here are the top articles (as stated by NYT) for 2023:
1. Titan submersible rescuers detect “underwater noise” in search area and redirect efforts. (June 20)
2. Matthew Perry, star of “Friends,” is dead at 54. (Oct. 29)
3. Damar Hamlin of Buffalo Bills in critical condition after collapsing during N.F.L. game. (Jan. 2)
4. Trump decries charges after pleading not guilty to 34 felony counts. (April 4)
5. House adjourns again with no resolution on speaker. (Jan. 5)
6. Agents search suspect’s properties as manhunt continues after Maine shootings. (Oct. 25)
7. Lisa Marie Presley, singer-songwriter and daughter of Elvis, dies at 54. (Jan. 12)
8. Paramilitary chief abruptly ends standoff in Russia. (June 24)
9. Tucker Carlson’s text that alarmed Fox leaders: “It’s not how white men fight.” (May 2)
10. Six killed in Nashville school shooting, including three children. (March 27)
Not sure what that says about the subscribers, but I do know that democracy is dying in darkness at this newspaper as well as at WAPO.
“Just the facts, please” flew the coop a while ago. Now, like Alice in Wonderland, there’s just a note that says CLICK ME
Yep, it is all about "engagement" and people who are enraged help feed that engagement.

4:30 am. You're a far more ambitious person than I. 😂
I finally had enough and cancelled the NYT- it's just crap-I dont feel I'm missing anything but rage.
