Music: Béla Fleck

As we head into the elections, I am trying to lose myself in music. Fortunately, both Youtube and Béla Fleck came to my rescue...

It was in the 1990's when I first heard Béla Fleck. I was at a local record store and this banjo/fusion jazzy thing was playing that mesmerized me. I didn't know who Béla Fleck was, but the band, The Flecktones, was entrancing. The energy of Victor Wooten on the bass, and Béla on the electric/synthesized banjo just floored me.

I got deeply into his music. From his first album of bluegrass, Daybreak, to a fist-full of The Flecktones albums, to his adaptations of classical music (the album "Perpetual Motion" from 2001 is a must listen). Each time it comes across my attention, I get into that groove again.

But lately, he's been playing with an all-star ensemble of bluegrass monsters, and the bits they are dropping on Youtube are just delish.

I highly recommend that you put on some good over the ears headphones, turn up the volume and just groove out to this 7+ minutes of joy.
