October 10, 2026 - Week in Review
Settling in on the long series on Ronald Reagan, this week we close out his early, formative period. This is the week where we start with the "A Time for Choosing" in support of Barry Goldwater. This was a political awakening (going woke eh?) and that really flipped a switch. We get through the campaign for California Governor.
Monday, October 5th: This is the moment, the (unwanted) speech in support of Goldwater, where Reagan really pulled together a speech he'd been workshopping for years, and it really began a public awakening. A Time for Choosing was a turning point:

Wednesday, October 7th: The aftermath of "A Time ..." was a flurry of consultants and building a framework to run for office, and Reagan leaned-in in his folksy way. It was a wild time that really cast the die for the future of the nation.

Friday, October 9th: The juggernaut that was to become the flip to politics was immense. Literally a flood of support, letters, postcards, and donations pretty much cemented the path.

This finishes the period of Reagan's life and career prior to his run for California Governor, and then on to the Presidency.
The next "book" will be in three acts, the Governorship, the Interregnum, and the Presidency.
Posts will start on Monday, October 12!

It was something that the capital class really wanted deeply, and Reagan paved the way to destroying this pillar of the middle class and upward mobility/stability. Naturally, the Dude has something to say about this:
