Friday I got my updated Covid shot, and unlike all the other shots I have gotten, this time I got thrown for a loop. Not nearly as bad as the two-dose shingles vax, that shit really sucked. But this has had me in a fog all weekend.

Bleargh.

Anyhow, no post on Sunday (although I was doing some research on a weekly "This Fucking Guy" episode, Adam Neumann - something to look forward to).

Monday, September 7 (Labor Day): Finishing up the three parter that began with the use of cricket by the British to filter the elites, then the sorting for military leadership, and this episode is a more detailed look at the entirety of the British empire, when it began, and what remains of it to this day. It was an interesting historical delve:

Before Jamestown, After St. Kitts
Empires get remembered with two clean dates, a start and a finish. The actual record refuses to hold still at either one.

After this, I am thinking there might be one more in the tank. A broader look at the colonial era and America's belated dash into it (and ham-fisted approach to boot).

Tuesday, September 8: Final installment in the story from the overpriced burrito to the real problem of affordability, this time we look at the advent and fascism of the HOA (Home Owner's Association) and how the tax revolts of the 1970's led to this abomination:

Your Neighbor Is a Government
Roughly 75 million Americans live under a body that taxes, regulates, fines, and can take their house. It isn’t in the Constitution, and neither party will touch it.

This is the end of the series "House Rules" - that will let you see all of them in one place.

Friday, September 11: On this ominous day, I have a TFG for you. This time, the fucking guy is someone I bet you never heard of, Nathan Myhrvold, a child prodigy, former CTO of Microsoft, and pretty smart dude. But like most smart people, he thinks that his raw intellect makes him qualified to opine at length on, well, anything. Alas, he's also the power behind Intellectiual Ventures, the granddaddy of patent trolls. And that makes him worthy of this honor:

This Fucking Guy: Nathan Myhrvold
I first heard about this fucker circa 2009, and he rubbed me the wrong way then. And since then, he’s coninued to vie for a This Fucking Guy treatment. I am happy to oblige. Table of Contents * The Man Who Confused Diameter for Radius * The Brochure * Twelve Hundred Shell

From the Shitpost Dude, he woke up on Sunday to the news that the motherfuckers at the White House had released a lightly skinned set of classic games into the most racist and inane variants.

They Turned Deportation Into a Snake Game, Man
The White House opened an arcade. Tetris already went on record about it. The Dude remains, on principle, unimpressed.
