June 27, 2026 - Week in Review

Another week, and time for the wrap.

Saturday June 20 - The wrap up of the Glorious Garbage, a take on the B-circuit of movies from the 50's thru the mid to late 1970's

Last Feature, Lights Up: The Death of the Grindhouse and the Afterlife That Nobody Planned
One last post, to document the end of this era, and why it is still relevant. And why I have so much of this physical media in my collection.

Sunday June 21 - I was going to take a day off, but that fucking guy Bill Ackman really needed another post:

Bill Ackman Runs Everything Like a Hostile Takeover, Including His Principles
Bill Ackman spent a year positioning himself as the conscience of American academia. Then his wife’s dissertation came up. Turns out his standards have a bid-ask spread.

Monday June 22 - The last legs of the Long Arc series drops to try to wrap it all up:

The Broken Mirror and the Empty Toolkit
Series: The Closed Loop, Part 1

Tuesday June 23 - the wrap on that Long Arc:

The Closed Loop
Series: The Closed Loop, Part 2 — Series Capstone - Bringing it all together

Also, I found Paul Gilbert just ripping on an acoustic a variant of his staple, Technical Difficulties:

Music: Paul Gilbert - Acoustic
Paul Gilbert is one of my icons. I discovered him in the late 1990s, his work with Mr Big was eye opening, and that got me to look into his band Racer X, and from there, I was hooked. I have as much of his recorded music as I can

Thursday June 25: The revelation that for two decades Peter Thiel has had a secret text (and now Signal) chain with some really obnoxious fuckers, and that caused me to resurrect the Billionaire Victims Club. This post begins this series, and it is exactly what you think. People who are wealthy beyond anything relatable, yet they still feel like they are getting a raw deal:

The Billionaire Victims Club, Season Two
A group chat, a tax, and the men who’d like you to know they’re the real victims here

One last note:

I have a theory about Substack's algorithms from reading people's posts on how they are getting ratfucked unless they fit the algorithms.

To test this out, I created a persona, The Shitposting Dude, and created a stack (https://www.shitpostdude.com) and have been taking posts from here (or outlines that became posts) and running them through an LLM to recast them in the voice of "The Dude" with tons of references from The Big Lebowski.

Still in its early days, but if you want to check it out, and possibly give it a follow or a subscribe you can help jumpstart the experiment. (note: paid subscriptions are turned on there, I do not expect or want anyone, especially my Sweaty subscribers to actually pay.)

Here's a post on the Paypal Mafia:

These Guys Have a Lot of Gall, Man
They dressed up as the mob for a magazine photo in 2007. The Dude thought that was funny. It is considerably less funny now that they’re running the government, man.
